The pregnant woman and accused serial killer dubbed “Am Cyanide” by the press, has been charged with 11 counts of premeditated murder as police investigate the scope of her alleged crimes.

While the authorities believe that 36-year-old Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn poisoned at least 15 people, one of whom survived, they have acquired enough evidence to file a slew of charges against the former wife of a high-ranking police officer.

In what has become Thailand’s true crime obsession of 2023, Sararat, who is four months pregnant, is accused of killing friends, lovers, cops, cops’ wives, and teachers, to name a few. Investigators have established money as the motivation in most of the cases.

Most of her alleged victims died of heart failure or aneurysms. Cyanide exposure “harms the brain and heart, and may cause coma and death,” according to the U.S. CDC.

The oldest case she’s been charged in goes back to the August 2020. The most recent was April 14, when the death of Siriporn “Koi” Kanhawong in Ratchaburi province first cast suspicion on Sararat.

She has been charged with murder and theft in Siriporn’s case. First degree murder charges have also been filed against Sararat in the deaths of police Lt. Col. Nipa Saenchan (April 1, 2023; Nakhon Pathom), her boyfriend Sutthisak “Dae” Phoonkhwan (March 12, 2023; Udon Thani), Pusadee Samboonmee, (Nov. 20, 2022; Nakhon Pathom), Maneerat Pojanat (Sept. 10, 2022; Nakhon Pathom), Kanika Tularat (Sept. 12, 2022; Kanchanaburi), Chanrat Wongkraisin (Aug. 15, 2022; Phetchaburi), Rajarin Ninhoi (Aug. 10, 2022, Samut Sakhon), police Capt. Kanda Torai, (Aug. 10, 2022; Nakhon Pathom), Surat Toraphap (Jan. 6, 2021; Kanchanaburi), Nittaya Kaewbupha (Aug. 22, 2020; Nakhon Pathom).

Sararat was charged with the attempted murder of Kantima Paesa-ard (September 2022, Kanchanaburi), a police officer’s wife who survived poisoning.

The mother of a woman who died seven years ago in Bangkok met police yesterday to accuse Sararat of killing her 37-year-old daughter, according to press reports.

Police are also investigating the deaths of Sawitree “Nim” Butrsirirak (Nov. 25, 2020, Bueng Kan). Sawitree’s police officer husband said Sararat had borrowed more than THB100,000 (US$3,000) from his wife and then sent her diet pills. “My wife bled from her mouth, her lips and nails became dark,” Sgt. Nitipon Nuchit told reporters.

Sararat was arrested one week ago at the Government Complex on Bangkok’s Chaeng Watthana Road.

Police said that Sararat’s sister, whose pharmacy supplied the suspected serial killer with cyanide, was uninvolved in the murders.
