An ad hoc committee formed by the Metropolitan Police Bureau is investigating an incident in which two police officers allegedly solicited bribes from passing vehicles. One of the two is being suspended from civil duties, pending the committee’s result, which will be released in two to three days.
Metropolitan police deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Anuchai Lekbumrung said that the accused has been identified as Pol Sen Sgt Maj Niphon Sokhai at the Bangna police station. Niphon, who admitted to accepting bribes, will be interrogated and likely face both disciplinary and criminal punishments.
According to Dailynews, Anuchai also encouraged victims, who were asked for tea money from Niphon, to come give testimony to police. The committee will also determine whether the other police officer that appeared on video with Niphon was involved and whether setting up a checkpoint under BTS Bearing station was legitimate.
