Police are hunting for a serial cat abuser who has shot five cats in the Bangkok suburbs with fishing darts over the past three months.
Animal rights organization Watchdog Thailand, along with the cat owner, filed a report yesterday with Nonthaburi police after the latest cat — a white-grey tabby — was shot in the chest on Monday.
Luckily, the dart did not hit any vital organs and the tom was pronounced safe after being taken to a pet clinic. Watchdog published a grisly video of a vet treating the injured tabby, which clearly showed how the dart had pierced his chest.
Owner Thawin Ngernpoonsap, 71, said that she lives alone with more than 10 cats, and believe it or not, at least three of the five cats shot so far have belonged to her.
Before this, Thawin said that her black kitten was shot in the right thigh, while its mother took a dart in the stomach. Both survived.
No information was available about the other two cats that were shot.
Police have questioned three witnesses and think they might have a lead on the case.
The serial cat shooter faces animal cruelty charges and if convicted, could face a two-year prison term and/or a fine of up to THB40,000 (about US$1,200).
