Several protesters were injured after police fired tear gas and rubber bullets today to stop them from entering the election registration venue in Din Daeng.
A group of anti-government demonstrators led by Uthai Yodmanee arrived with several sound trucks from their base near Government House to the Thai-Japanese sports stadium and attempted to force their way inside, where the process of assigning party numbers was under way.
Protesters and three police officers were hurt by the gas.
Inside. 32 political parties successfully copmleted the drawing process and were assigned numbers.
Speaking on television, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, head of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), said the action was necessary to protect candidates and election workers, MCOT Online reported.
