Police raided a club in Bangkok’s popular Lat Phrao district in the wee hours this morning, detaining more than 100 partygoers, who subsequently tested positive for drugs.
Ostensibly acting on a tip, the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) and the Narcotics Control Board showed up at Naza Pub at about 2:30am to shut the party down.
They administered urine tests on site and checked all 500 guests present for identification, reported Workpoint.
The partygoers whose results came back purple, indicating drug use, were then taken to Khok Khram Police Station, where they have since been released pending further tests.
After examining the club, authorities also found numerous bags filled with ice (crystal methamphetamine), ketamine, and ecstasy scattered all over the floor.
Pol. Col. Apiwat Chaisrisut, commander of Khok Khram Police, today explained the police’s intent to determine the type of drugs used at the party as the reason for the mass detention, according to Khaosod.
The urine samples are going to be sent to Police General Hospital for further examination. Results indicating precisely which drugs were present in each arrestee’s system are expected to return in about a week.
Pol. Col. Apiwat stated that those found guilty will be summoned and charged after the fact.
Meanwhile, Naza Pub has been forced to temporarily shut down while police work to verify their license. The owner of the establishment will be summoned for questioning later this week.
