Police chief asks media to exercise caution with bomb stories

The national police chief has asked the media to exercise caution when reporting on the bomb blasts at Erawan Shrine and Sathorn pier.

Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang made the comment after a Japanese news agency reported that a man in a blue shirt captured in VDO footage using his mobile phone at Sathorn pier could be linked to the bomb blast there.

Pol Gen Somyot said the report lacked evidence and these types of stories hamper the police investigation into the blasts and threaten relations between Thailand and other countries, reported Thai PBS.

Officers have questioned a number of foreigners in their investigation into the two bomb blasts, he added.

The bomb at Erawan Shrine left 20 people dead and injured over 100.
