Two students from Ramkamhaeng University have been arrested on suspicion of killing a red shirt government supporter during a violent confrontation between rival groups last month.

Teerapat Thongrit and Noppadol Kaewmecheen are suspected of involvement in the death of Private Thanasit Viangkham, one of three red shirt victims shot to death on the night of Nov. 30 along with one anti-government protester near Rajamangala Stadium.

Police said Teerapat was inside his dorm room when he fired a handgun owned by Noppadol, killing Thanasit. The gun and ammunition were also seized from the suspects’ room, police said.

Teerapat, a freshman student studying political science, declined to make a statement outside of court.

Jatupon Prompan, a red shirt leader of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship said those who instigated the students must be held accountable.

“These two suspects might end up losing their bright future,” he said. “Therefore, those who urged the Ramkhamhaeng students to fight with Redshirts and those who whipped up the hatred must be responsible,” Khaosod reported.
