Police arrest man who killed pregnant woman in Nong Khaem due to misunderstanding

Yesterday police announced the arrest of Chakarin Rungjang, a 34-year-old man who had allegedly shot dead Chamchan Phoonsombat, a five-month pregnant woman, in February 2008. During the announcement, Chakarin asked for forgiveness from Chamchan’s family, stating that his brutal action was caused by a misunderstanding.

According to police, on the day of the murder Chakarin became infuriated when his girlfriend told him that someone had spit on her head from the second floor of a convenience store in the Nong Khaem district. Seeking revenge, Chakarin and his two friends went to the store and launched their attack. The shooting killed Chamchan and seriously injured her father. Chakarin later found out that the spit on his girlfriend had actually been bird droppings.

Chakarin, who fled to Chachoengsao after the murder, is being held at the Nong Kang Plu police station for interrogation, Dailynews reported.
