An American man wanted in New York state for internet fraud was paraded before the press by the Central Investigation Bureau in the Pathumwan district yesterday.
Theodore Andrew Werner, 48, was arrested at his condo in Phuket on Saturday after U.S. authorities requested that Thai police apprehend Werner, who had reportedly been hiding in the kingdom since 2014.
Werner allegedly pretended to be a tax official who lured people into investing in businesses and transferring money to him via internet calls.
It is estimated he has made more than USD2 million (THB68.8 million).
Werner entered Thailand with a tourist visa last year before he obtained a student visa to extend his stay. He had been hiding with a Thai woman in Nakhon Sri Thammarat before he was caught in Patong area of Phuket.
Werner will be deported, Bangkok Post reported.
