Police apologize to girl harmed in Tuesday’s shootout

Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen visited a young woman who was injured by a stray bullet stemming from Tuesday night’s shootout between police and drug traffickers.

Somreudee Wanawanan, 22, was eating dinner with friends when she heard shots ring out. She was 100 meters from the primary shooting scene. After hearing gunfire Somreudee ducked for cover in a nearby shop. At that moment numbness came over her face and blood began to pour down her left cheek.

It is still unknown precisely where the stray bullet came from.

The young woman was rushed to the Police General Hospital, where it was determined that Somreudee would require plastic surgery to restore her face. She said she wouldn’t sue police officials but urged them to take full responsibility for her injuries. All of her medical expenses and compensation have been covered.

Pol General Pongsapat stated that the young woman is entitled the THB20,000 from the government’s crime victim compensation program and THB50,000 from the ONCB Fund.

After checking on Somreudee Pol General Pongsapat saw to the slain drug trafficker’s 3-month old baby. The baby boy is recovering at the hospital from minor broken glass wounds. He instructed that the child’s mother come collect him and promised that no charges will be pressed against her, reports The Nation
