Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been named the 31st most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine. In her profile, the magazine states that she is the prime minister of one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies (score!) and that she is working to settle one of Southeast Asia’s most violent internal conflicts.
Outside of Thailand’s domestic issues, the article mentions that Yingluck attracted international attention in 2013 when she pledged to outlaw the domestic ivory trade within Thailand, following pressure from a Leonardo DiCaprio-led campaign by the World Wildlife Fund.
Last year, Yingluck ranked 30th in this same poll. German Chancellor Angela Merkel retained her spot this year as the most powerful woman in the world, the Bangkok Post reported.
