Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has proposed a new THB2 trillion infrastructure development bill to bring high-speed trains, better railway management, guaranteed safety and affordable fares to Thailand.
Yingluck said she believes the key to improving commutes and transport costs is shifting the country away from road use. Eventually, this train system should link all ASEAN countries in the region, the prime minister said.
Government committees will finalize urban development plans within the month, the Bangkok Post reported.
