Plight of the Karen seen through photographer’s lens

Before the relatively recent invention of nations and borders, territory was defined by ethnicity, identity and culture.

Now groups such as the Rohingya and Karen have found themselves neglected, excluded or worse by the modern states created around them.

Documentary photographer Atiwat Silpamethanont went to get a first-hand look and will show what he documented at “Lenscape of The Land” next month at Soy Sauce Factory.

Atiwat spent two years in refugee camps and conflict areas in Myanmar to experience and record the life of the Karen.

The opening reception starts at 7pm, June 7. The exhibition runs through July 17.
