PlateCulture brings hungry travelers and friendly locals together

First the internet facilitated renting out your apartment or car for extra income. Now a new service called PlateCulture is allowing locals to connect with travelers to serve up authentic meals in their homes for a small fee.

Sorta like AirBnB for food, hungry travelers (or whomever is interested) can choose and book a private dinner at the home of a friendly stranger in the city they are visiting. Diners get an authentic experience in a local’s home, while hosts can show off their culinary skills, meet new people, and earn some pocket money. Rates in Bangkok right now run between USD16-30 for a three to four course meal.

PlateCulture was launched by co-founders Reda Stare and Audra Pakalnyte in Malaysia in June and has since expanded to Singapore and Thailand.

Upcoming dinners in Bangkok include Ghanaian and Mexican cuisines and an “Italy Meets Japan” feast.
