Thailand is suffering through another sad day as Piggy Bank, the 25-year-old sea turtle who ate coins that people threw in her pool for luck, passed away this morning.

It was revealed this afternoon that Piggy Bank, or “Ormsin” in Thai, passed away at 10:10am, according to the veterinary team at Chulalongkorn University, who had been caring for the green sea turtle.

Piggy Bank, who had spent much of her life in an abandoned pool in Chonburi, had 915 coins removed from her stomach earlier this month. She had swallowed the money, which had been thrown at her for good luck, over a long period of time. She underwent another emergency operation on Sunday, yet she fell into a coma despite the best efforts of her tireless doctors.

Dr. Nantarika Chansue, Director of the Veterinary Medical Aquatic Animal Research Center, said that she hoped that the death of the beloved Piggy Bank would be a lesson for the world. She has urged people to stop feeding coins and other unnatural objects to animals because it could cost them their lives, Sanook reported.
