A dramatic midnight chase ended with the murder of a neighborhood chief in Prachinburi province last night.
Somsak Paelee, chief of a subdistrict in Si Maha Phot district, died after being shot to death by assassins.
Police said Somsak was being driven home from a temple funeral with his guard when a pickup truck started following his vehicle. The truck sped up and opened fire on the three men, hitting Somsak and his guard.
His guard returned fire from the front seat while Somsak collapsed in the back, Bangkok Post reported. He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
Ta Toom is a notorious neighborhood known for violent power plays, and police said the murder was linked to election conflicts.
