Rescue workers successfully caught a five-meter-long reticulated python early yesterday morning after locals spotted the beast on a plot of land in Phuket Town. It weighed over 70 kilograms.

Kusoldharm rescue workers were notified by a local resident that a large python had been found near the Phuket Formal Education Centre at 1:40am. After arriving at the scene, where the python had positioned itself under the center’s name plate, they immediately realized they’d need more help.

About 10 more rescue workers were ultimately called in to assist with the capture. It took the team a solid 10 minutes to successfully put the serpent in a cage.

As the python is far to large to release into the area directly around Phuket, the team has contacted the the Nature and Wildlife Education Centre to retrieve the python, which will be released in a more suitable habitat.
