A fleet of French bros set out last night on scooters just before midnight in a celebration of life that was so obnoxious it ended with seven arrested and fined.

Phuketers did a double take last night when it turned out an annoying scooter gang juicing their engines and making noise at about 11pm was not comprised of Thai teens but rather fully grown Frenchmen joyriding along Patong Beach.

Police fined some of the unidentified French on public nuisance counts for irritating residents and other motorists after they gathered en masse to honk their horns, snarl traffic, rev their engines and make culs of themselves.

Acting on complaints about the noise and excessive exhaust fumes, Patong police detained several of the French motards and fined them. Police said it was in the name of upholding Phuket’s sterling reputation.
