Phuket Airport expansion to be completed soon

Phuket Airport will soon have something more than a Burger King that charges you double for a Whopper.

THB5.8 billion later, the airport’s expansion project will be completed by April, Phuket Governor Maitree Inthusut announced today.

Five additional gates and a new cargo terminal are scheduled to open in April, enabling Phuket to handle 20 to 30 more passenger flights per day.

Meanwhile, the old cargo terminal will be adapted to a separate terminal for international flights, equipped with 1,000 parking spaces.

However, Terminal X, which is intended to service private flights, is now in the finishing process and expects to open a bit earlier on Feb. 15. Pimped out with shops and restaurants, the new terminal will help relieve the crowded main terminal and handle the increasing number of private tour groups, Manager reported.
