Photographs of dead animals to make people ‘Remember Death’

We habitually pursue goals and pleasures to suit what is best for us and to enrich our happiness. When one’s goal has been achieved, a victorious award is announced just like that of a general who returns victorious from war and is named a national hero.

However, will this vanity last long? The answer to this is portrayed by the works of an inspiring Thai artist, Dhanainun Dhanarachwattana, whose latest exhibition is entitled “Momento Mori?”

The title, “Remember Death” in Latin, is a simple phrase that no mortal should forget. It’s easy to forget death when your life is at its height.

Death is death, whether you’re a hero, a beggar, a billionaire, or an animal. For the latter, are their deaths worthy of our consideration? Can it serve as a grave reminder of our fate and be our Momento Mori?

“Momento Mori?” suggests that death matters only when framed in a context permitting human values, and that without it, all that remains are but questions without question marks.
