Photo: Monitor lizard at Parliament House finally captured

At 12:20pm today, officers of the Thai Parliament House captured the water monitor lizard that had escaped yesterday into the building’s air vent.

Over the past 24 hours, officers from the nearby Dusit Zoo and the Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation were called in to help capture the 1.5-meter-long reptile. Late yesterday afternoon, they decided to call off the hunt, fearing it would cause widespread damage to the building’s ceiling.

In their final attempt to capture the animal, which started at noon today, 10 officers, all in firefighting suits, finally accomplished their goal, having spent 20 minutes in the pursuit.

The monitor lizard reportedly seemed fatigued and had sustained injuries to its paws. It will soon be transferred to its new home at the Dusit Zoo, Sanook reported.
