Pedigreed Thai dog saves baby in Ayutthaya

Not the Bangkaew in question, but a close relative thereof

When combined with today’s “guilty dog” video, this news should prove sufficient to put June 3, 2013 down forever in the annals of “cute dog news” history.

Earlier today, a pedigreed Thai dog from Ayutthaya saved a baby from death after someone, presumably her mother, had abandoned the child in a roadside garbage bin.

The dog, a male of the Bangkaew breed, found the baby stored inside a white plastic bag, then picked up this bag and took it to his master’s house.

Sudarat Thongmak, a 12-year-old niece of the dog’s master, discovered the child. The baby was soon rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

The Bangkok Post reports that while the village has yet to identify the child’s mother, the dog, named Pui, has been awarded with a leather collar and a medal.
