Do your New Year’s resolutions include getting fit and helping worthy causes?
If so, this charity cycle ride between Bangkok and Pattaya could be the perfect challenge for you.
The Bangkok2Pattaya cycle challenge promises a fun day of bike riding with beautiful scenery on the 150km journey from Bangkok to Jomtein.
Funds raised will go towards building a multi-purpose sports court for disabled children at Rainbow House, a home run by the Christian Care Foundation for Children with Disabilities (CCD).
The existing sports area needs a new roof and resurfacing so it can be weather-proof and used all year round for sports, games, raising the flag and singing the national anthem.
Organizer and Lab fitness trainer Ross Norman told Coconuts he had visited the Rainbow House and was impressed by the “amazing job” the staff did there in caring for the kids.
He decided to help raise funds for a sport centre so that the kids there could enjoy sports like their peers.

“Like many others, I’ve had a very privileged upbringing in the fact that I had great sporting facilities at school, college and university, and I personally believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy playing sport in their lives irrespective of the background or the situation they’re in,” Ross told Coconuts.
“I have put this fun and challenging event together – which will be, I hope, the first of many – to give myself and others the opportunuty to help these children who are already born with difficulties, have the space to enjoy sports in their daily lives as much as I do. I hope I can inspire others to do the same.”
The cycle challenge takes place on Feb. 27.
Registration costs THB3,500 and includes group training days before the event, a tour guide and mechanic during the ride, packed lunch, drinks and snacks, and restaurant dinner.
