PE teacher who threw a mug at female student to be investigated

A PE teacher in Nakhon Ratchasima, who allegedly threw a mug at a female student’s face and caused nerve damage that has twisted her face, will be investigated by education and justice officials.

Paithoon Klaengkrathok, the 58-year-old PE teacher at Chokchai Samakee School, will face a disciplinary investigation by a committee formed for the case, which went viral this week after the victim and her family took to social media and contacted the press, Bangkok Post reported.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Naruedee Jodsanthia, wrote a plea for help on social media. She alleged that on August 8, her teacher told the class to sit on the ground outside while he made tickets for them to choose teams. However, her group of friends stood up to avoid the sun. When the teacher came back, he was furious and threw an empty mug at her group, which accidentally hit her in the face.

Although she was hurt, Naruedee sat down and continued with the class. It turned out that the mug inflicted a nerve injury that caused her mouth to twist and can no longer close properly.

The family said that the school has refused to pay the THB300,000 cost for treatment at Ramathibodi Hospital that Naruedee is going to need.

However, Pavena Foundation for Children and Women has taken the student for treatment at a private hospital in Bangkok.
