Pattaya police arrested a transgender woman known locally as “Noey of Walking Street” yesterday for stealing from an inebriated Russian national — a crime she said she hoped would help pay for sex reassignment surgery.

On the night of Oct. 10, Sakda Nuchwong, 26, and her friend reportedly approached a Russian tourist who was drinking at a bar on the notorious Walking Street, an alley in a red-light district. Taking advantage of his intoxication, Sakda and her accomplice, an unnamed transgender woman, offered to walk the tourist back to his hotel.

After arriving at his room on Pattaya Soi 3, the two ladies saw his safe was open and helped themselves to the 75 gram gold necklace and THB4,000 (about US$120) cash inside while the victim was in the bathroom. Then they told the man they were going home.

The Russian, who was not named, didn’t realize the duo had left with his valuables until the next morning, when he woke up to find his stuff missing, Sanook reported.

Police arrested Sakda at her apartment by tracking her down from CCTV footage. Her accomplice remains at large.

Sakda confessed that she stole from the tourist because she needed hundred thousands of baht for a sex change operation at Lelux Hospital on the outskirts of Bangkok — the same medical institute that recently went viral for offering a “3D vagina” surgery.

Sakda was charged with nighttime theft, a crime punishable by a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of THB10,000.
