Pattaya birthday rager was raging – until 50 cops showed up

More than 50 officers raided a pool villa birthday bash in Pattaya last night to bust a large international gathering they feared would spread more than joy.

Acting on a tip, Bang Lamung cops last night took 28 partygoers into custody at Exquisite Pool Villas on the beachside enclave’s Soi Boonsampan 11/1. The crowd was a mix of nationalities including, Filipinos, Russians, Frenchs, and Thais along with a Briton, Canadian, Albanian and Cambodian. Most were language instructors.

District chief Wutthisak Singhadaechor said that people were obviously partying at the birthday balloon-festooned scene, where disco lights and pool tables were in use in two pool villa homes. People were drinking and eating in celebration of a Filipino man’s special day when they got an unexpected surprise by a raiding party of nearly twice their number. Officers said no illicit narcotics were found at the scene.

Though more than 1,000 cases have been reported daily for 12 consecutive days, with a record-breaking 2,839 on Saturday, some of those at the party said they did not know that they were violating the law. All were charged with violating the emergency decree’s prohibition on large gatherings, which is punishable by a THB40,000 fine and a maximum of two years in jail
