Paternity leave extended to state workers

The Cabinet has approved a draft bill that would allow male employees of state-owned enterprises 15 days of paternity leave when their wives give birth. The draft bill was proposed by the State Enterprise Labor Relation Committee to allow for the husband to care for his wife and newborn child.

Under this new law, a male employee can ask for a 15-day leave at full salary within 30 days after the birth of the child. However, if they need to take time off after the 30-day period then they will need the approval of the chief of their division. Also, if their request is granted, their leave with full salary may not exceed 15 working days, the Bangkok Post reported.
