Dozens of passengers were rescued yesterday evening after their triple-deck wooden boat capsized in the Chao Phraya River.
An investigation has been ordered into the incident in which a wooden vessel operated as a ferry and restaurant sank in the Chao Phraya River, according to Wittaya Yamuang, Marine Department director.
Though no deaths or injuries were reported, Wittaya said the boat, called the High Season, would be suspended from operation if its operator acted recklessly.
The ship had disembarked from the Ramada Plaza luxury hotel in the Charoen Krung and was near the Marine Department when it started to list, according to boat operator Tassanai Kampangjeen. He decided to stop the ship at the Suan Somdej Pier near the Phra Pok Klao River to offload all passengers – Thais and foreigners – onto the pier before the whole ship went down.
