Party like it’s 1599: Artists celebrate Caravaggio with musical homage

Michelangelo Merisi o Amerighi da Caravaggio was blessed not only with many names but a legacy that has lived for four centuries.

On Sunday, The Space Bangkok presents “Chiaroscuro,” a project by three different artists creating in their own element to celebrate Caravaggio’s art and life.  Caravaggio was an influential Italian painter in Baroque times where he was known for his depiction of religious subjects and his use of light.

Artists Jacopo Gianninoto and Somtow Sucharitkul say they are attempting to convey “the interactions between ancient and contemporary elements.” Gianninoto will play baroque instruments such as the lute and the baroque guitar, combined with Suchartikul’s lyrics. This is coupled with a visual element provided by Voraprada Voratananchai.
