Park officials in Petchaburi’s Kaeng Krachan National Park are on the hunt for a rare, white elephant that was sighted by a photographer earlier this month.
In a statement to the press, Park chief Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn said that a unit of forestry guards had been dispatched to track down the elephant, which will likely attract the attentions of poachers, owing to its rarity.
Chaiwat also said that a reward of THB6 million is being offered to anyone who can capture the animal.
The Bangkok Post reports that white elephants, coveted for their rarity, are traditionally presented as gifts to the monarch.
