Two million qualified low income earners have received a one-time cash gift from the government, the culmination of a project that has cost the state THB2.29 billion.
After the Ministry of Finance revealed that they’ve had rich and dead people register for the welfare money along with the poor, all 8.3 million registered names were inspected and it turns out that only 2.1 million people qualified to receive the money.
About one million of them are farmers, and the payment was made via bank transfer this week.
Each received a one-time sum of THB1,500 or THB3,000, depending on the bracket of their income.
The project was meant to help farmers, who are considered the backbone of the nation, MCOT reported.
