According to the official prediction made by the sacred oxen this morning, things will be great for Thai farmers this year.
The Royal Ploughing Ceremony, held at the Sanam Luang site this morning, is an event that helps boost the morale of Thai farmers and uses oxen to predict this year’s rice-planting season
As part of the ceremony, two eligible male oxen are presented with seven offerings: paddy, hay, corn, sesame, mung bean, water, and liquor.
This year, the oxen selected paddy and water, which means: “The water source is abundant. Our rice, fruit, food and meat are plenty this year,” according to MThai.
The event, usually held at the start of May, also marks the beginning of the rice-growing season and is one of the prominent traditional features of Thailand’s cultural identity.
