A one-month-old baby monkey, “Khao Mao,” who lives in a forest in Northern province of Phichit, was rescued by the embrace of another female monkey after his mom died.
According to Luangta Yerm, the abbot of Hat Moon Krabue Temple, who feeds the monkeys, Khao Mao’s mother fell 30 meters to her death from a tree when she tried to run away from other apes.
When Luangta Yerm saw that there was no way to save Khao Mao’s mother, he randomly said to the monkeys he was feeding, “Who wants to care for this baby?” Surprisingly, another female monkey, now known as “Kwan Yuen,” stepped up and took the baby in her embrace, Thai Channel 8 reported.
The abbot said Kwan Yuen has been raising Khao Mao like her own baby. Khao Mao had also been suckling on Kwan Yuen’s breasts out of innocence, but the female monkey didn’t have any milk.
There are about 70 apes living in the forest behind the temple. Luangta Yerm feeds them with the leftovers from the temple or uses donation money to buy fruit for them, Sanook reported.
Correction: The animals in this story are monkeys and presumed to be of the macaque variety.
