A commissioner of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) disclosed that the leading mobile operators in Thailand have yet to lower the price to consumers of operating on the country’s 3G network.
The regulator approved the proposed 3G standard service contracts last month, which requires the 3G tariff prices for both data and voice to be reduced by at least 15%. The new maximum 3G rate for voice is 82 satang a minute, down from the previous 97. SMS and MMS service should cost TBH1.33 and TBH3.22 per message, respectively.
TMCNet reports that the price for SMS was 1.56 with MSS for TBH3.90. Data will be 28 satang per megabyte as opposed to the previous 33 per megabyte.
