A 45-year-old man of Narathiwat province was the only newly confirmed case of COVID-19 reported today.

As the number of new detected cases have slowed to a trickle, public health officials on Tuesday reported only one new infection and no new deaths due to the coronavirus, bringing its registered impact since January to 2,988 infections and 54 fatalities. Testing remains quite limited, and the actual numbers are likely higher.

The sole reported infection involved a 45-year-old resident of the southern border province of Narathiwat. He told health workers he had been coughing and experienced trouble breathing since April 25.

It marked the fewest new daily case total in weeks, since reports surged into exponential growth in mid-March.

The COVID-19 task force has come in for criticism since Monday for separating the counts for Thai nationals and foreigners who have become infected after it posted on social media that, “Finally there are zero infections in Thais. But 18 foreigners are infected.”
