One-year-old dies at hospital after attacked by angry nanny

A 1-year-old boy died at a Bangkok-area hospital Sunday, four days after he was allegedly abused by his babysitter.

Amporn Janin, 29, is suspected of physically abusing Pume, 1, who died at Nonthaburi’s Bamrasnaradura Hospital after four days spent in a coma after being admitted Wednesday.

His mother, Somjai Tabsuk, 32, has turned to the Pevana Foundation to seek justice for her baby’s death at Pevana Foundation by bringing the media’s attention to the case.

Somjai said she dropped off her son at the babysitter’s apartment in Nonthaburi province on Wednesday morning and received a call four hours later that her son was in the hospital.

Babysitter Amporn admitted to punching the toddler’s stomach twice for spitting water and claimed Pume later slipped in the bathroom, hit his head and passed out. She had taken care of the toddler on while his parents were at work for four months before the incident.

Pume had reportedly stopped breathing before arriving at Bamrasnaradura Hospital.

However, doctors who examined the 18-month-old cast doubt on Amporn’s version of events. X-rays showed no wounds to the toddler’s stomach that would cause him to stop breathing and no blood clots were found in his brain, suggesting Pume did not die from hitting his head.

The doctors suspect Pume might have died from the lack of oxygen.

The toddler will be sent for an autopsy for determine the cause of death while the babysitter faces prosecution, Thairath and Spring News reported.
