One card to rule them all: Transit agencies developing joint-ticketing system

Tired of carrying pockets of Rabbit cards, MRT cards, bus tokens, Easy passes and those poker-chip looking things for the subway?

Several state-run mass transport agencies in Bangkok are planning a joint-ticketing system to serve six million daily commuters, according to the Transport Ministry.

The State Railway of Thailand, Bangkok Metro Public Co., Bangkok Mass Transit System, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, Expressway Authority of Thailand, Don Muang Tollway PLC, Bangkok Expressway Public Co. and Marine Department have all agreed to the plan to provide more convenient access to Bangkok commuters.

Private enterprise will be invited to participate in operating the new system, said Chula Sukmanop of the Transport, Traffic Policy and Planning Office.

Don’t line up yet however. It will take about two-and-a-half years before the ticketing pool is launched, MCOT reported.
