On eve of coronation, new Thai Queen named

Thailand has a new queen, according to an announcement from the Royal Palace.

Queen Suthida Vajiralongkorn has ascended to the position upon marrying His Majesty the King just before his coronation, it was announced today.

Suthida, who holds the rank of general, formerly served in the king’s bodyguard corps when he was prince.

King Vajiralongkorn, who took the throne after the death of his father King Bhumibol in 2016, will be coronated this weekend in Bangkok.
