Old tires: the latest front in the war against dengue fever

As part of its ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of dengue fever, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is asking Bangkok residents to get rid of their old tires.

Disused tires tend collect water in their recesses, which in turn serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes – the purveyors of dengue.

In the first three months of this year, 3,109 Bangkok residents contracted dengue fever, reports the National News Bureau of Thailand. Only one death has resulted from this spate of illnesses. Teenagers, youths and young adults have proven most susceptible to the virus.
