The Pollution Control Department (PCD) said the major manufacturers of water bottles inside the country are discontinuing plastic cap seals—this will result in a decrease of plastic waste by 520 tons per year.

Yesterday, PCD Director Jatuporn Burutpat stated that the department is moving forward with decreasing the waste from the cap seals. With the cooperation of major water bottle manufacturers, PCD believe that the country will be free of them within one year.

The Food and Drug Administration confirmed that cap seals are in no way related to the cleanliness and the quality of the water but only ensure the tightness of the caps. With the seven billion water bottles produced in Thailand annually, there are mountains of plastic cap seals, unable to decompose and thrown into land and sea, reported Thai PBS.
