Officials are hoping to create a rail system that moves passengers at Don Mueang Airport between Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the car park. The free service would also connect to the Red Line, a train line that is under construction and supposed to be completed by 2019.

Airports of Thailand (AOT) believes that the project would be increase the older airport’s ability to handle more passengers and ease traffic issues near the airport. The system is not a train like what’s in use throughout Bangkok, but an Automated People Mover (APM) similar to those used in the Hong Kong and Dubai airports.

The AOT will conduct a feasibility study, which should be complete in six months. If approved, the train would take about three years to complete and cost about THB1 billion, reported Bangkok Post.

AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said the new rail system should be between six and eight kilometers long.
