Yesterday, 25 police officers searched the home of ousted, and now convicted, former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for clues about her disappearance, who assisted in her getaway, and how she pulled off the escape.
At her Bangkok home, in Soi Yothin Pattana 3, they collected belongings that they believe might be related to her escape as evidence as they continue to question Pol. Col. Chairit Anurit, who admitted earlier this week to driving Yingluck to the Cambodian border, reported The Nation.
Yesterday, Prayuth claimed that Yingluck was in Dubai with her brother, ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra. However, today she turned up in London and may seek asylum.
On Wednesday, Yingluck received, in absentia, a five year sentence from the Supreme Court. This was from charges related to her administration’s rice-pledging scheme.
An arrest warrant has been issued for her in Thailand but, “We’ll proceed to revoke her passport only if we are requested by relevant agencies and the ministry agrees that the criteria [in Yingluck’s case] are in line with ministerial regulations,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Busadee Santipitaks.
