Officers locked up on rape charge seek release after victim says she lied

The wives of two former police officers jailed for raping a minor are seeking their release two years after the victim confessed that she lied about it.

Police Sgt. Maj. Mongkol To-tong and Sgt. Maj. Nulom Addma, former officers working Bangkok’s Petchkasem Road, have spent three years in Klong Prem prison after they were accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2007. Today, their wives and an officer from Thailand’s Department of Special Investigations filed a request in the Criminal Court seeking their release.

Mongkol and Nulom were sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping the girl during an interrogation. She had accused seven officers, but could only identify three alleged attackers, two of which were convicted.

However, two years ago, the case was taken up for review by the Supreme Court, and the girl confessed she was not raped by the two police officers, and lied about it because she was angry they had arrested her many times on drug-related charges. The confession led to her being sentenced to 9 months in prison.

The two former officers are now seeking their release, Sanook reported.
