‘Odysseys’: AFP photographers revisit refugee crisis at BACC

The refugee crisis in the Andaman Sea in May 2015 made international headlines, thanks in part to the photos of Agence France-Presse photographers.

One year on from the crisis and AFP is hosting the “Odysseys – Photographic Exhibition – Meet The AFP Photographers” to revisit its coverage of the plights of refugees and migrants across both Europe and Asia.

The Odysseys exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre features photos of anxious parents helping children over the razor wire fences guarding the Syria-Turkey border, mass graves found in Thai jungle prison camps, exhausted people marching in columns down Eastern European roads, and many more.

The exhibition will finish on May 29 at the BACC’s 3rd and 5th floor.

Two AFP photographers — Christophe Archambault from Bangkok and Ye Aung Thu from Yangon — will hold a discussion on May 11 about how they covered the crisis in Southeast Asia.

The discussion, which is open to the public, will take place at 4pm on the 5th floor.
