A taxi driver with a long record of robbery, threatening passengers and physical violence was arrested yesterday outside of Bangkok.
According to a report on JS100 radio, the taxi driver, Thanet Boonserm, 37, was caught at a Big C market in Samutprakarn province while threatening a passenger. Police said Thanet has been treated in a mental hospital before and appeared confused.
Thanet ‘s antics are well-known to many Thai netizens. Perhaps the most viral story comes from female user on Pantip.com. In the post the woman recounted driving near Makkasan airport rail link station when Thanet’s pink taxi tried to cut in front of her without giving a turn signal. After she let him pass, the taxi driver stopped and got out of the car in the middle of the road. He smashed the woman’s car with his bare hands and yelled out insults. She then honked repeatedly until another taxi driver who passed by talked the nutty driver into leaving.
Another popular story comes from Max, a season 4 contestant of The Star singing competition. He said he was almost robbed by Thanet after the driver demanded he leave car without his bag. Max sad he distracted the driver and was able to escape from the car with his belonging, but the demanding driver chased after him.
The company who owns the taxi will be questioned and prosecuted, Sanook reported.
