Grandma Lin wrote that she had just eaten and taken her pills. Then, it was time for her to dig out an old friend, her guitar. Just like that, she made everyone fall in love.
Her cover of the 60s tune, “Why do I love you so,” by Johnny Tillotson, made Malinda Herman, a Bangkok grandma, famous overnight. The video has been watched over 4 million times and kids are flocking to her Facebook page to leave compliments.
“I ate. I took my pills. Now I’m dragging my neck wattle to a guitar the way old folks do. If I didn’t, I’d die. Hehe,” Marlin captioned her video.
It turns out that playing music is actually key to her long life. Malinda, 67, who’s a mix of Thai, Singaporean, and Yugoslav, was a singer in her teenage years before suffering a terrible accident that paralyzed the left side of her face.
Singing and playing guitar is a way to exercise her facial muscles, according to Morning News.
Malinda said she loves music from the 60s and 70s, some of her favorite artists are Elton John and The Carpenters.
Asked why she posted the video on Facebook, she said she only wanted to share with her friends, and that her cat loves it when she plays guitar.
“I just wanna show them that, although I’m a grandma, I can still entertain the kids. You don’t have to be beautiful or anything. If you like something, do it,” she said.
Someone, please put that quote in a Hallmark card.
Malinda said she’s glad that people love her video, and she would try to fulfill their musical requests.
“I’m happy. I’m overwhelmed that the kids love it.”
Wearing cat-eye sunglasses, Malinda also posted a video of her singing an original song while driving.
