Police in northwest metro Bangkok arrested a man last night they said stole items worth THB10 million (US$300,000) from a gym locker.

Nonthaburi police said they found Narongphon Pongsothon, 37, in a room at the Seriphaph Condotel with the goods stolen from real estate businessman Sathit Wattano’s locker at the Fitness First gym in The Mall Ngamwongwan.

What could have been worth THB10 million? Police said the recovered items included an amulet, Garuda medallion, gold necklace, Hermes bracelet, nudie jeans, Adidas Ultraboost shoes, training shoes, and  training shorts.

Sathit, 35, reported the theft Jan. 10 after his belongings were missing following a routine workout.

The thief, originally from Ratchaburi province, reportedly confessed to police that he was also a gym member and had managed to copy Sathit’s locker key. Narongphon allegedly stole the items while Sathit was working out. He said that he had planned to pawn the items.

Narongphon was being held Thursday at the Nonthaburi police station.
