Nok Air will no longer offer a free 15 kilogram allowance for checked baggage to customers who buy the airline’s dirt-cheap promotional tickets, Nok Air announced this afternoon.

The new rule will come into effect on Feb. 20, and flyers on promo tickets who want to check their bags will need to pay THB525 for 15 kilograms on domestic flights and THB1,600 on international flights.

The budget airline usually offers three classes of tickets: promotional fares — which are sold seasonally, Nok Eco — the standard tickets, and Nok Flexi — the flexible tickets.

Nok Eco flyers are still entitled to a 15 kilogram checked baggage allowance while Nok Flexi flyers are offered a 20 kilogram allowance.

So there goes the only reason to fly Nok Air as free baggage was the one privilege the budget airline offered that its competitors didn’t, such as AirAsia.

Nok Air’s promotional tickets are usually a fraction of the price of the standard Nok Eco and Nok Flexi fares. For examples, a promotional ticket for a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in August is sold at THB590, while a Nok Flexi ticket would cost you THB2,700.
