Budget airline Nok Air has canceled their pet delivery service after a Siberian Husky puppy, named “Por Jai,” died during transport.
The announcement was made in a Facebook post yesterday by Nok CEO Patee Sarasin, who said the reason for the service cancellation was to prevent another incident like this.
“Nok Air feels sorry for the death of Por Jai and will offer a reasonable compensation. To prevent another incident like this, we will no longer accept pets. Thank you,” Patee wrote on his personal Facebook.
The airline’s decision came after a puppy’s breeder, Itsares Khumdee, took his story to social media on Monday and claimed that Nok Air had refused to take any responsibility or offer compensation for the death of Por Jai.
According to Itsares’ Facebook post, Por Jai was flown in the cargo hold of Nok Air from Bangkok to Trang province on July 12. The puppy was sold to a couple in the Southern province, but when they came to pick up dog, they found Por Jai dead in his cage.
Itsares believes the dog died from suffocation because the CCTV footage from the airline showed that Por Jai was put in a non-ventilated cargo area for one and a half hours before boarding. Itsares also questioned whether the airline had adjusted the air pressure in the plane’s cargo for the dog to breathe.
He demanded justice after he received a letter two weeks later that Nok Air “will not take responsibility.”
The airline was heavily criticized online for their alleged actions. Many also expressed their anger on Nok Air’s Facebook page.
