Warning: Graphic footage of teens smashing their beloved phones
A video that went viral this week shows Thai navy cadets smashing their smartphones with a concrete brick as punishment for bringing them to class.
The video titled “Soldier must endure” was shared on Sept 13 on the Facebook page Youlike. The footage shows the students looking surprisingly calm as their smartphones were placed at their feet.
“Sarawuth! You just bought this? How much? THB10,000?” The trainer/cameraman said, “Sitthichoke! Is that an iPhone 4?”
After the trainer’s inspirational speech, the students had to smash their phones with a concrete block, leaving their fun texts and years of selfies in pieces.
The video has been criticised by internet users with many pointing out that their trainer possibly used a mobile phone to film the video.
“They have a no-phone policy, but is there a rule that the students must destroy their phones if the trainer found them?” User Bharathip asked.
Most disagreed with making the cadets destroy their mobile phones and pointed out that there are other means of punishment.
